Technical Notes
During my time at Greenwich House Pottery I focused on hand-building techniques: coiling, pinching, hard and soft slab construction, etc. which I still employ in my current work.
Since I have had my own studio I have developed a range of high fired glazes (cone 10), which are mostly based on traditional Japanese shino glazes and are fired in reduction. I also developed a number of low fired matt glazes which are more suited to my sculptural pieces. I fire these in an electric kiln.
I have also experimented with other surface treatments such as stains and acrylic paint as an alternative to glazing the finished sculptural pieces.
The clays I use range from high fire iron bearing clay, high grog sculpture clay, to raku and paper clays.
